About Me

My name is James Clarke, and I am an information and cyber security professional with a passion for technology.
My background is in software testing, engineering, systems architecture, administration, resilience and hardening. Security has been interwoven into every role I've performed, which has lead me to build and lead security teams across the globe.
I've spent the last 20+ years helping technology companies take advantage of our increasingly connected world, building, scaling, and securing SaaS platforms, forging relationships with boards, clients, and partners.
Most recently I worked for a $1bn revenue Swiss-listed fintech, securing the business, turning security into a driver of commercial success within the SaaS division.
I'm driven by a few core beliefs that have shaped how I lead, build teams, and approach the world of security and technology:
- Software should empower everyone, not the few. Technology should not be used for suppression or control, but to enable and illuminate.
- Integrity is everything. It builds trust, credibility, and lasting relationships. Relationships build societies, which are good.
- People come first. They are the lifeblood of any organization, not commodities. A small group of empowered people can achieve more than a larger group of unmotivated people. I believe in community and mentorship, helping others learn, grow, and find their way.
- Transparency creates belief and helps others invest their time, attention, and trust, especially in times of hardship or difficulty.
- Learning never stops. Growth comes from exploring technology, ideas, and different perspectives. Broad horizons build broad minds with infinite problem solving and inventive abilities.
- A broad range of skills and experiences help leaders connect the dots, adapt, and create lasting impact.
These principles guide not only how I work, but how I think about technology, leadership, and the role security plays in enabling both.
